Ep 99. Phylactery

Dynamite, Mushroom, and Bic are walking through the forest. Dynamite asks, Are you sure you wanna go back there? It's. Mushroom cuts him off and says, Traumatizing? I know. But it's fine. It's dead now. Dynamite suddenly looks confused. Dynamite asks, Did you get taller? Mushroom, who is noticeably taller than Dynamite, answers, Let me check. She flops her head to the side onto Dynamite's head and says, Huh, I'm 2.5 inches taller.

Bic, looking tired, says, I've only been to this spot once since you came here. Pana said it's safe, but. I dunno, you died here, right? Mushroom looks worried as she answers, Yes, but, we're Even now.

As Mushroom talks, she passes by a spider in a web. She continues, and we need those webs for traps. Mushroom glances towards the web, text beside her reading, Turn, as she says, So there's no reason to be. She suddenly cuts herself off as she finally notices the spider, panicking and falling over. As she falls over, she kicks the web and sends the spider flying.

Dynamite shouts, Mushroom? Mushroom, lying on her back, has text next to her head reading, Pant pant. There is a close-up of her eyes, in which shroud spines are reflected. Dynamite gently lifts her head with text by his paw reading, Lift, asking her, Are you alright?

Mushroom suddenly elbows him with effect text reading, Bump, shouting, No! before getting up and running away. Dynamite shouts, Wait! Bic, confused, asks, Wha. Dynamite cuts them off shouting, Wait, Wait! I'm sorry! and running after her.

Bic is left standing there, staring after them. Suddenly, text by the bushes says, Rustle. Dolly, one of the other pack razors, comes out from the bushes on all fours, saying, I was stalking you for fun, but, do you need help? Do you need chase? Bic, waving a paw, very sternly tells her, Yes chase, no kill. Do you understand?

Bic looks back towards where they were going as Dolly leaves, grimacing as they say, I guess I'll, do it myself. They look around anxiously as they approach the body of a shroud, the one that Dynamite and Mushroom killed before joining the razor pack. Chewing on one of their claws, Bic says, Ooh, I should take as much as I can. So I don't have to come back. They keep looking around, saying, No, No, Not that one, That one looks yucky, Fuck.

Suddenly, Bic freezes, first looking down at the shroud's mushroom-covered body then at the burst phylactery on top of it. Text above their head in the first panel reads, Freeze, and their speech balloon in the second just reads, dot dot dot.

They look over at the other side of the corpse, seeing its remains absolutely overgrown with mushrooms. They say, Oh. Then, recoiling, they ask, What the fuck is that thing? Ew. Sound effect text behind them reads, Rustle, as a noise draws their attention. They look over their shoulder at the bushes, where another sound effect says, Rustle.

Nervously, they approach the bushes, stammering, Hello? The bushes rustle again with another sound effect saying, Rustle, as Bic reaches out towards them. As Bic pulls the bushes aside, they suddenly reveal a drooling, haunted-looking spore.

Elsewhere, Dynamite finds Mushroom hiding under some propped up rocks. As he approaches, he says, Hey, Dude. I know you don't like talking when you're upset, but, I feel like we're losing each other. There is a shot of Mushroom's face. Her expression is blank, but her eyes are puffy and tears are running down her cheeks. Dynamite keeps talking, saying, I don't want to make this about me, but I'm, scared.

Dynamite continues, peeking out at her, I'm scared of talking to you and touching you, I, I feel like I'm alone sometimes. There's a shot of the dirt and some bugs as he says, I think a lot about when we'd lay in flowers. Or when you'd invite me to your house to sleep over. So I could eat something that wasn't months-old kibble. And sleep on something soft. I really want things to go back to that.

Mushroom scrunches her face. Dynamite continues, I love you but you make me feel stupid. And I know you don't think I'm stupid. That's why, I wish you would talk to me. Mushroom turns her head a little, answering, It's too much.

I miss you too. I don't want to lose you. I don't know what I'd do. Dolly, who was following them both, listens in, catching a glimpse of her reflection in a puddle. Mushroom continues, Something about me is changing. I just don't think I'm strong enough for you. There's a shot of Dynamite starting to cry as Mushroom says, It feels like, everything in this place is upside down.

Mushroom finally looks at Dynamite, saying, I don't want to live forever, without you. Dolly, clearly disturbed, runs away, finding her way back to camp. Text beside her reads, Pant pant, as she heads towards one of the dens.

Upset, Dolly crawls under Billie's arm, text above her head reading, Shuff. Billie coughs loudly and curls around Dolly protectively, her face hidden in dark shadows.
