Day 02 - Marshlight Port

What a day! I must admit, it’s hard not to treat this scientific journal like a diary, but I never want to forget these precious moments.

The train ride to the port was peaceful enough, and I fully expected to be greeted by Tech upon my arrival in Marshlight. Instead, she was delayed for a few hours and sent a friend of hers in her place– a fishing boat captain named Glass Bead, who is in charge of this year’s Sea of Lights festival.

We had a wonderful time walking through the colorful beach town, past fishing boats and sailboats anchored at the shore. Flags and kites shaped like fish lined the boardwalks, strung up in preparation for the upcoming festival. He showed me his ship and introduced me to his two children, Lifering and Watermouse, who were both charming in their own ways.

For a light late lunch, Glass Bead took me to a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant where miniature boats drifted by carrying plates of nigiri on the water. I’ve never been adept with chopsticks, but he insisted that all the best sushi chefs recommend eating nigiri by hand anyway, so we did just that.
