Ep 95. The Visitor

2/20/26

Sugarcube is asleep in her bed. Part of a wall drawing can be seen on the wall behind her pillow. Suddenly, she opens her eyes, looking afraid. Text on either side of her reads, Clank, Chitter. There is a shot of the room from her point of view, showing two more drawn depictions of objects on her wall, including one that resembles Citrus. Her drawings overlap her posters.
Sugarcube sits up, looking across the room to her bedroom door. More and more drawings are revealed of assimilated objects, lining the bottom of her bedroom walls. Her door is closed, and her room is too dark.
She looks over at the lamp on her bedside table. It's powered by a battery pack, and shaped like the moon. Reaching out with a foot, she turns the lamp on, text beside it reading, Click. As she does, a tall, cat-like shadow rises out of her toybox across the room, stretching tall enough to wrap onto the ceiling.
The shadow says, There you are, little one! Sugarcube finally notices it, then, looking up at it in shock. It continues, I was searching all over for you. Sugarcube asks, Are, you a monster? The shadow answers, Oh, no, nothing like that. Simply a chaperone from another world. It reaches a hand down Sugarcube's wall to point at her, saying, And you.
You don't belong here. Sugarcube, worried, asks, You mean, you'll take me away? What about my parents? The shadow lifts its hand beside its head and answers, Those aren't your real parents, dear. Your real parents are in the other world waiting for you. Sugarcube, looking surprised, stammers, Really? A whole different world?
The shadow brings both its hands together, eyes squinting as its smile grows. It says, Imagine this. It pulls its hands apart again and suddenly, in the shadows on Sugarcube's ceiling, there's a simple scene of Brandy and Minty running through a field collecting flags. The shadow explains, You're at home watching TV, on the couch with your mother, she flips through the channels, and there are your dads. They're cooperating, competing together for a grand prize.
A wish, for anything. And they want you to have it. The little drawing depictions of Brandy and Minty wave down at Sugarcube as the shadow talks. It continues, You fell through a portal when you were spawned. They miss you very much. Sugarcube, tearing up, seems to believe it.
It asks, Don't you want to go home? Sugarcube shouts, Yes! The shadow continues, I'm the only being who can bring you back. In fact, I'm the wish granter as well. It smiles eerily again as it adds, You can call me Host.
Sugarcube stands up on her bed, crying out, Please! I want to go now! The shadow raises a hand to its chin in thought, saying, Unfortunately, you've been here nine long years already, your essence may no longer be in-tact. With a sad look on its face, it says, I'm afraid I'll have to test your might.
But if you fail, it starts, eyes wide, before being cut off by Sugarcube's door opening. Sugarcube turns, text reading, Creak, next to her head. From offscreen, Minty shouts, Sugar? As the shot changes to focus on him, standing in the doorway with a knife, he worriedly asks, Are you okay?
Sugarcube turns to face the wall. Text says turn. The Host is no longer there. Minty asks, Did you have a nightmare? Or did you hear something? If you hear a monster, you have to tell us okay? Sugarcube looks down, dejected and silent.
