Ep 91. Law of Attraction

12/12/25

Painkiller steps away in a panic from Carrot, one hand held up as they exclaim, Woah-oh! Hey big guy! Text beside them reads, Step step. Carrot, whose leaves are so overgrown as to appear shaggy, replies, You're the one who mercy killed me. I see you've taken a liking to my used socks. Painkiller blushes, back hitting the wall behind them as they answer, It's not like that. The entire scene is cast in a saturated red.
Carrot cuts Painkiller off by putting his paw against the wall beside their head, sound effect text beneath it reading, Ponf. Carrot replies, No, I love it. As the shot turns back to him, he's shown looming over Painkiller, visible eye half-lidded and his hypothetical skeletal system overlaid over his body. A rabbit's skull, a ribcage, arm bones. He's still smiling.
There is a sudden cut to Fossil out in the snow, wearing the fur coat she was gifted and holding a tape recorder in one hand. She glares at something in front of her, which is revealed in the next panel to be the massive assimilated object that was frozen into a chunk of ice outside the lab. With the scene turned away from Painkiller and Carrot, the color palette goes back to normal.
Fossil touches the ice, onomatopoeia text by her hand reading, Chuff. As she notices one of the parasite's coremata in the ice, her eye widens, and she's brought into a flashback of her time in the Paradise labs. Pushpin can be seen from behind, peering into a small terrarium. She asks, Fossil? Want to see something cool?
Fossil approaches at Pushpin's side, reaching up to adjust her single glasses lens. As Pushpin smiles with her hands clasped, Fossil leans in with text beside her reading, lean. Eye narrowed, she asks, Huh? Yes, what is it, only to cut herself off with an, Eugh! as she recoils in disgust. Pushpin, eyes glittering, doesn't seem to share her disgust, leaning in further as she explains, That's a male moth's coremata! There's a close-up shot of a moth sitting on a rock, its four coremata, large pheromone glands with feathered edges, fanned out from the tip of its abdomen.
There's a wide shot of the lab room as Pushpin continues, It's just a scent gland. They use it to spread pheromones, so they can attract mates. Fossil, still skeptical, answers, I see. The lab is a massive, brightly lit room with long, sterile countertops, large windows to the outside, and floor mats denoting the workstations. A few other scientists share the room with Pushpin and Fossil. Pushpin continues talking, telling Fossil, It reminds me of when we discovered Fear, isn't it strange? That objects can produce pheromones like insects? Pushpin's final speech bubble is overlaid with another shot of the assimilated object's coremata frozen in the ice.
Suddenly, the next panel cuts back to Painkiller and Carrot, their real bodies now the overlays as their hypothetical insides grow more detailed. Their brains, skulls, and eyes can be seen clearly past their outlines. Carrot and Painkiller share a French kiss, and where their tongues connect to their throats can be seen under their skin. Carrot pulls back and away from Painkiller, a line of drool connecting both their mouths, and leans back on top of them. His one eye opens again, the other covered by his leaves, but all of his organs can now be seen. Lungs, liver, intestines, Painkiller can map where each one would be. There's a bright white glow emitting from Carrot's chest, shining out from where his heart would be.
Painkiller, eyebrows raising in shock, raises a hand and reaches out towards the glow. the bones of their hand and wrist can be seen through their skin, as if the light were shining straight through. Carrot is still smiling.
The next page cuts to Painkiller alone and spasm-ing on the floor, sweating, foaming at the mouth, and bleeding from the nose. The color palette is also completely back to normal. There is an open box of some kind of food bar by their feet, and plastic packaging at the corners of the panel. A puddle is forming beneath their head
