Ep 88. A Moment

10/31/25

The first two panels of the episode open on the empty bathtub of Brandy and Minty's apartment, and the bathroom counter. The bathroom counter has an unwrapped bandage and a half empty vial of testosterone on it. In the next panel, Minty takes a T shot. He says, ow. Text says poke. On the bathroom counter, the bandage has been taken and there is a capped draw needle sharp on the counter. The tips of Minty's leaf and his tail are now dry and curled because of the cold, and he is wearing a long red scarf.
Minty pulls a sheet of newspaper away from the window to look outside. He is holding a cup of water. A shot closer to his face reveals that he is hardly bruised anymore, meaning some time has passed. Outside of the window, Center Ring is covered in frozen egstrom and snow.
The water cup in Minty's hand is visible. He takes an audible sip. Sugarcube, from outside of the panel asks, Dad? Minty makes a speech bubble with a question mark. Minty asks, What do you need, kiddo? Sugarcube asks, Can we get more paper? I drew on all the backs of all the papers. And the wall a lot. Can we also leave soon? In Sugarcube's mouth, there is a drawing she made of Minty with his red scarf on.
Minty takes the drawing from Sugarcube. He says, This is nice. Sugarcube snaps, But dad, what about? Minty interrupts, saying simply, I don't know. Genuinely got no clue.
After a short time skip, the two are sitting together in the same spot and talking. Sugarcube asks, Do I never have to go to school again? Minty says, Artists don't need diplomas. Sugarcube says, Okay! Minty continues, saying, But we might make you go for the experience. The words for the experience are in quotation marks. He says, you might have to redo second grade. Sugarcube says, oh. Minty says, You don't have to worry about other kids, though! We'll homeschool you! Sugarcube looks mortified.
Minty looks at her drawing, smiling, while Sugarcube continues to look mortified. He then says, Maybe your uh, Mom can help too. The word mom is also in quotation marks. Sugarcube's expression instantly lights up. Minty then says, Y'know, I'm surprised you used a whole sheet. Just to draw me. The word me is underlined. His shadow casts over the drawing in the next panel, where Sugarcube then says, It was my last one.
She says, I couldn't think of anything else to draw. A bigger shot shows more of the living room. Trash is everywhere, and dirty dishes cover the table. The drawing can be seen still in Minty's hand from his perspective, where a tear drop falls onto the paper. Text says plip. Minty says, Me and Brandy are gonna go out for supplies soon. Maybe we can get you something.
The drawing of Minty has been put on the fridge, on top of all of the other drawings that were on the fridge. Minty sleeps on the couch, smiling. Brandy sits in his bedroom, watching the sky. Outside of his window, starsheet pokes through the clouds. Minty thinks to himself, Maybe there's one good person left.
