Ep 79. Behind You

6/27/25

Comet looks down at the flute in their hands. She later stands outside looking towards the Rings. Text describes the sound of loud wind.
Comet blows on the flute. From where Comet is standing, two parasitic hives can be seen on the edge of the Rings. A small speck can be seen in the field.
Comet draws their bow. Text says pull. An assimilated object surrounded by arrows lodged in the ground is yelling for help. Thick oil paint strokes spiral in the background. Comet fires the arrow and it lands next to the assimilated object's foot. Text says shunk.
Comet draws their bow again. She thinks, Every day, I try to lure it closer. The arrow flies past the assimilated object's disfigured hand. Text says zip. It calls for help again. Comet thinks, No matter what I do, it won't move.
She thinks, I can't get closer to take a good kill shot. Comet turns around and begins walking away. Text says turn and step step. She thinks, It terrifies me, because it knows I'm here. The assimilated object stands still.
She thinks, And I'm convinced that it knows, that I am terrified of people. At night, the sky looks painterly, swirling, and full of stars.
In Comet's tent, the space heater glows orange in the dark. Comet fidgets with a bone awl before inspecting a quiver that she made with rabbit hide and feathers. Text says scrape scrape.
Comet uses a pump drill to make beads. Text says whir. Comet picks up and inspects the hole in a bead closely before going back to using the drill.
The shots close in on Comet as their panels become desaturated. Comet turns to look behind herself, but nothing is there.
Comet turns back around, her hand on her dagger. She stares downwards, sweating.
A voice quietly says, Comet.
Comet whirls around, swinging her dagger. In her eye there are three pupils. The tent tears open, text says rip.
Comet grips the dagger tightly, her arm shaking. She thinks, I, am I, Losing my mind?
