Ep 16. Pins and Needles

Spool and Citrus are walking through the city, a large text box saying, One week later. Different shots show Spool scavenging for food while Citrus watches unamused, then Spool attempting to hit Citrus in the back of the head with their pipe. Citrus suddenly catches the pipe mid swing, partially transforming and glaring at Spool.

After narrowing his eyes for a moment, Citrus says, Come, now, gesturing for Spool to follow him. In the background, there is a massive, spider-like parasite standing between two buildings. The next panel shows Citrus and Spool camping on a rooftop, having made a fire to keep themselves warm, and then the next panel after that shows Citrus inside of a well-lit apartment. The owner of the apartment, an 8 ball object, cries out, Help me! Someone! As Citrus walks towards him.

Citrus, spreading his arms, says, This will be painless. I'm doing you a favor. You've lost it all, haven't you? Crying, the 8 ball replies, My family, mom, mom! He grows more distressed as he goes on, clutching at his face as he cries more. The next panel shows Citrus's mouth, his fangs poking out over his lip as he says, That's horrid. Why go on?

Citrus crouches down in front of the 8-ball, cupping his face and continuing, When this is all over, I heard they'll be respawning everybody for free. So, I'd consider myself lucky. You have no idea, how rare this opportunity is. Outside the apartment window, two crows watch what's happening from on top of a light post.

There is a zoomed in shot of the crows as Citrus, off screen, continues, I'm prolonging my own suffering for you to have peace. The 8 ball slowly begins to stand up, saying, Nothing, matters. Citrus, eyes turning red, replies, That's right.

The 8 ball, now looking determined, says, Even so, trailing off. Then, suddenly, he grabs a knife from the counter, shouting, I don't want to die! He stabs Citrus in the eye, and Citrus hisses loudly as he fully transforms, his leaf ears appearing and fur growing out of his skin.

As Citrus stumbles backwards, knife still stuck into his eye, the 8 ball shouts, What are you? A fucking orange? Maybe I should eat you! He's interrupted, however, by Spool swinging their pipe at the back of his head, and there's a loud Clang as the pipe cracks his object.

Spool stands there over the body, holding the pipe with an anxious expression on their face as they stare at Citrus. They say, Your, eye. Citrus grabs the handle of the knife, replying, Save your pity.

Then, with a grunt, he pulls the knife from his eye, continuing, If I were that easy, I'd be long dead. As he pulls the knife away, Spool sees that his eye is completely fine. A box reads, It, regenerated! There's no way! What is he? as Spool looks on in horror.

Citrus crouches down to check the body, putting his claws on the 8 ball's arm and saying, They have a pulse, good. I can't eat a soul that isn't there. Then, suddenly, he gives Spool a big smile, surrounded by glitter and sparkles as he says, Thank you, Spool! Fantastic job! Spool, shocked, gains a little bit of blush, a cartoony spike piercing through their heart.

Spool recoils, then, shouting, Your freaky charm powers won't work on me! Citrus, offscreen, replies, I don't have any. Spool says, You're lying. Citrus begins to suck the soul from the 8 ball, smiling smugly as he says, If you can't tell the difference, it only benefits me. Spool, visibly perturbed, replies, Asshole.

Citrus begins to transform back into his hominid form, continuing, The only lie I told today was about the free re-spawns. Besides, people who get their souls eaten, can't be respawned. Citrus licks his lips as he says it, fangs still showing. Spool, face shadowed, only replies, Great.

Fully back to normal, Citrus says, Don't stress too much, Spool. Sticking his tongue out, he adds, It'll shorten your sweet lifespan. Spool flips him off, and Citrus asks, Seriously? Spool, annoyed, asks, What are you gonna do, stress me out?
